Sound is everywhere, but did you know it travels in waves? There are two types of waves, compressional and transverse, sound is compressional, though.

The picture above shows what a sound wave looks like. You can't see a sound wave but they are certainly there. Below the first picture is another diagram of how sound moves. Vibrations in air molecules causes your eardrum to vibrate which your brain interprets as sound.
